Our Mission

Our mission at NYFSS is to build a safer, more livable New York City by empowering, educating, and equipping residents to raise their collective voice; pressing politicians to seek evidence-based, effective solutions; and driving voter turnout in support of these goals.

We are a group of NYC families and residents who love our neighborhoods and our city and want to ensure it remains a welcoming environment in which to live and raise our children. We believe investing in safer streets is a win-win for all New Yorkers. Our goal: to engage, invigorate, and effect change.

Our group was founded in response to the October 21st, 2019 shooting adjacent to a playground on West 64th Street. As parents and as New Yorkers, we are deeply concerned about a decline in the quality of public safety. We are concerned about a lack of resources to support and treat unsheltered mentally ill on our streets. All residents deserve to feel safe walking in our community. We want elected officials who will make necessary changes for all New Yorkers to feel safe.

We are hyper-local, grassroots, and solution-focused.

We seek to understand the point of view of all NYC residents to provoke positive changes in our community.
